Music History

This morning I played music while the kids were getting ready for school. But let's back up a bit...

For Christmas this year, my parents got me the most wonderful gift. I had no idea what it could possibly be, so when I opened it and realize what it was, I shrieked! It was wonderful! It was fantastic! It was the most glorious site I had seen in many, many days! It was a record player.

Oh how I love my new record player, I could go on and on and on, but that is not what this post is really about. This post is about my parents falling in love and how I have in my possession a little piece of that.

The music I played this morning was a Carpenter's record.

So as I flipped the record over and Superstar began to play, I told my daughter about her grandma and grandpa when they were students at BYU. I told her how my Mom told me, that when they would go out on dates, whatever they did, they always seemed to end up at her apartment, listening to these records. Their song is We've Only Just Begun, I've known all the words for as long as I can remember.

So I don't know, it just hit me this morning how incredibly romantic this story is. I'm so happy to have these records. It's like owning a piece of history. It's all part of the reason I am here.

And I think that is fantastic.

I LOVE the Carpenters. I too know all the words and I have those casette tapes. They are also my Christmas music favorite!

I never heard that story! That's awesome! And WHERE did your parents find a record player? Man, that's an awesome gift! My parents have tons of all records in the storage room--I wonder what treasure there are in there? (and what nightmares!) They don't have a story like that, though. Yay!

It's a brookstone record player. It's fancy cause you can hook it up to your computer and make digital files. The sound quality is amazing too.

That is such a romantic sentimental story...love it. Our song is Here and Now by Luther Vandross.

Emili, there is a store here called half price books that sells records. I just went there today and spent $10 for 5 records. Awesome.

oooh, what a sweet story. I had no idea you actually would remember that story. We knew we had the perfect gift for you. You have said a few times that you wanted one. Happy Mothers's Day. What a great mother and daughter you are.

Leslie, just catching up on your blog. Nice comments. One shock I had about 10 years ago is that many couples who fell in love and got married that year had the same experience with the carpenters-maybe not the part about always landing in the apartment after dates listening to the Carpenters. Love the pics. Love,.......Dad

Happy New Year
