Heard Around My House Yesterday

From the husband:

"What kind of world do we live in when there is no Micheal Jackson in it?"

"I've always liked Micheal since I was a boy! I could never admit it though. I was a metal head."

From the daughter:

"He even sang songs when he was a kid? WOW!!" (giggle)

"I love the Beat It song. It so beat-y!!"

Have You Ever Taken a Long Ride in a Hot Car?

Well, that's what we did yesterday. We drove to Tanglewood Lake. What's that? Never heard of it? I'm not surprised, it's clear down past Osawatomie, KS (John Brown, anyone?), past the Potawatamie River, almost to Mound City. (Look at a map, if you are so inclined.)

Now stay with me now, my husband's, Dad's, cousin's, son lives down there. (Did you catch that? That's how we do family relations around these parts.) He lives year round on some property in a 5th wheel trailer with his wife and two dogs. And get this, they pay an POA fee (like a HOA fee) of $125 per lot, and since he owns two lots, he pays $250 per year to live there! He says he pays a minimal electric and water bill of about $100 a month. Can you believe it?
This community was so funny, I loved it. First off, he had to come meet us at the gate. You can't get in or out without a pass. Swanky, right? Nah, there were more campers than houses, and most had a port-o-potty parked out side. It actually reminded me of a little cabin community in the mountains of Utah with all the big hills. We followed him into his property, we had to wait on the dam for a flock of geese to pass. If you look closely, you can see the cigarette hanging out of his mouth in the rear view mirror, I love this picture. Also, I would have posted a picture of the sticker just to the right of the yankees one, but this is a family blog. Buh dum bum.
The kids had a blast and wished when we left that they had a little house like that too. He did tell us if we were interested, that on July 6, the Tanglewood community is having an auction, and we could probably get a lot for less than a $100. Maybe next time......no, actually it would be a blast to have a place like that to go on weekends.
I also invented a new category of photography. It's called see what you can take a picture of while going 65 mph. It's fun, try it. This is what I got:

For Cindy, the Bees Knees

As requested by Cynthia in a comment on my last post, here are some of the cross-stitches I have done. I have also posted a few bad pictures in the early days of my blogging career HERE.

I am reposting this one again, because I want to show you the back. Awesome, huh?

I made it for my Mom and she LOVED it. She spent more money than she should have to frame it, and now it's home is right where everyone can see it from her living room. (I'm just a little proud of it, can you tell?)

Both of these were done for my sister in law. Her boy is half black, and I had to kind of guess for the skin color on the baby. When he was born, that kid was almost as fair as mine, if you can belive it. Oh well, I tried.

I also do other sewing....

Someone told me once this kind of sewing was called crewel. But I don't know, that sounds fancy and I just kind of do it, I do what gets the job done. Not a lot of skill involved. They go really quick and don't take near the patience as a cross-stitch. (Unless you need to fill something with french knots. Damn you french knots!! Damn you!)

For My Mom, I did this,

For my sister when she had her first baby, I did this.

And I did this redwork becaused I liked it. It sits in my cupbard, folded up until I have money to frame it proper.

I Don't Know

I get asked so many questions.

I don't know what that animal eats, I don't even like animals. I don't know where your shoes and keys are, I don't think it's my job to know. I don't know why God made it rain yesterday, okay? I just don't. I don't know when my last period was, I'm sure I forgot on purpose. I don't know what that dog said, it sounded like a bark to me. And no, I don't know what I'm doing that day, I don't plan that far in advance.

And what's that? You want to know what's for dinner? Now, that I have an answer for.......

NOTHING.

I Feel Like Listing

  • My boy is at summer school. My daughter had a friend over the other day. She asked me if her friend could come home with us right when I got done exercising. Sheesh, kids these days, they have an uncanny knack for finding your weak moments. I mean really, would you be able to stick to your guns after exercising with Betsy at Jazzercise? I don't think so!
  • Oh, and speaking of you, Betsy! You think your so funny playing that Ashley Simpson song, and apologizing to me before the song starts. For shame!! You are just as bad as Jen, wishing me a happy Halloween before playing Born to be wild. You wisenheimers! You guys know I hate those songs!
  • I think I have a little crush on John Lasseter.
  • Hey Mom! I got straight A's!! Tell me how awesome I am.
  • Oh, yeah. Jason got straight A's too.
  • I have been staving off my daughter's summer boredom(yes, already) with cooking. She got a Paula Deen children's cook book for Christmas. So far, we have made Tuna Melts 3 times(she keeps asking for them), and Porcupine Balls once. Both were surprisingly good. The best part is, we have most of the ingredients already, and the kids will actually eat the food. I know if I tried to feed them Porcupine Balls that I made, they would have turned their noses up at it.
  • David Carradine was found dead in a hotel room somewhere in Asia. It was apparently a suicide. Why does this make me want to watch the North and South mini-series so bad? Cause I do, really, really, bad. I own it on DVD, you know. Lisa, I know you are sooooo jealous of this fact.
  • Oh crap!! I just remembered the DVD player decided to die this week.
  • I finally have raised enough money for a pool pass. Gardner pool, here we come!! I can't wait to get re-acquainted with all the sun burned fat ladies in bikinis. Also, I enjoy seeing how just about everyone in Gardner has a tattoo or two. Or three or four. I'm so excited to be sprayed with that water gun on top of the play equipment by some punk kid. It's great!! Nothing is better than that cloudy water, and that sticky gum all over the pavement? It's awesome!! Totally worth the $150 dollars for a family pool pass. SO worth it.

Happy New Year

Every night at around 8pm, I announce, " K, it's time for bed !"  and my 8 yr old (who we now consider to be autistic) ...
