As I stated in an earlier post, I have been re-reading the Twilight series before the fourth book comes out in 4 days!(Hurray!) The first time I read these books, I was obsessed. I could not get over them. I thought about the Vampires all the time. I wasn't alone in my obsession. Nearly every female I knew was obsessed too. I never really thought about why. This time through however, I have been thinking about why these books are such a phenomenon. I know why I like them. First off, Bella is a little pathetic. I can totally relate to pathetic. And secondly, vampires are sexy. I love Vampires. I think it started in Junior High. The French teacher at Churchill Jr. High, Madame Hardy, would show the classic, Dracula with Bella Lugosi in French with no subtitles. I had no idea what they were saying, and maybe it was the French language but it just seemed so romantic. (Yes, I'm weird. I think The Empire Strikes Back is romantic too.) So why does everyone else like the Twilight books? I'm not exactly sure, but I have a theory.
What little girl wouldn't want a guy to be totally about her? He gets himself transferred into all her classes, he holds her while she sleeps, he saves her clumsy butt every two seconds. At one point he even says "My life is about you now." PUH-LEASE! Sounds like my young, teenage girl fantasy come true. It doesn't even stop there. Then comes the other guy who is totally in love with her too. Come on already! So mostly I think women/girls love these books because it backs up all the fairy tales we tell our little girls about love and marriage.
Okay, enough of that. I still like these books, just not as much as the first time I read them.

not as much as the last time?! I think I enjoyed them more the 2nd time cause I wasn't rushing through them so fast. Bella may be pathetic, and weak at some points in the book, but other times she's strong, she's not self absorbed, she's smart, and I can relate to the clumsiness ;-). Edward to me at times is too obsessed and protective, leaning on the creepy side (doesn't mean that I don't love the other qualities about him). But then Jacob is still a kid and immature. But these are my opinions. =) Just like you LOVE Robert Patterson (sp?) to play Edward, and I can think of a handful of other guys that I would rather see play the part cause to me, Robert is just not cute at all. He does have striking features, but not handsome. ;-) Who knows, maybe that'll change when I see the movie. I just prefer my imaginary Edward. =o)
I personally like Twilight for how real she makes the characters (obvisouly not literally, cause of the vampires/werewolves) but the personalities and interaction between the characters. AND Stephenie Meyer writes in a way that I want to see what happens on the next page, I can't put the books down. (I'm actually listening to the audio book of Twilight right now.) anyway, that's me. I could read them over and over again.
Yea! That's the kind of response I wanted. Anyone else?
Sure, Bella is not self-absorbed, I agree with that. I just think at times her reasoning is flawed.
Also, it's good to remind me that people in the books are still young. Like in Harry Potter. Sometimes I get so mad at some stupid mistakes thay make, then I have to be all, oh yea, there only 14 or something.
I still am trying to get around to reading them. I don't want to buy a copy and it seems I can't get my hands on one to borrow. I do want to see the movie so I need to read it before December I guess. I do know one person who didn't like the Twilight books. Can you imagine?
P.S. I really like the red background. The other one made my tummy turn...I don't know why because that color green is one of my favorites...hormones I guess.
Lisa,
No. I can't imagine.
Have Emili bring her copy the next time they go to SL. Or better yet, From your driveway, go right, take a left on Sego Lily. Continue on up Sego Lily right up the big hill and through the light on 13th E. Turn left on the first street after 13th, go down just a little way and turn left in the parking lot. The Sandy Library! AND it's free! You're Welcome.
Sorry, I thought it was super cute. you should have said something, I would have changed it earlier:)
Smart ass. Last time I checked there was a huge waiting list...I guess I should get on it now I'm sure I'll get it by December. Thanks actually...I forgot about the library...duh!
