Trouble Getting Financial Aid

My husband has enrolled in classes for this fall. Everything has really been falling into place, until we hit a snag with the financial aid. This story is really quite sad if you think about it. You see, 17 years ago tomorrow, my husband turned 18. This lucky little boy was given a stripper for his birthday-BY HIS DAD. Unfortunately, Dad of the year neglected to mention the federal law that requires all males to register for the draft within thirty days of turning 18. My reaction to the news that my husband never registered- Are you serious? You never registered? His response- No. Registered for what?

We have contacted the Selective Service and they agreed to send a document to my husband that states that he should not be denied any rights because he never registered. Unfortunately, this is not a guarantee that he will get the financial aid he needs. That is up to the College to decide.

But seriously, the draft? They haven't used the draft since 1974. Vietnam, people! While on hold, my husband put the phone on speaker. I forget the exact wording, but the manly voice said that the draft was an Armed Forces Security Insurance or something. I was so offended. Insurance? These are men with lives we are talking about. Anyway, it seems our country is doing just fine in our little wars without the draft.

So, do you know if your husband registered? Because, it just never occurred to me to ask.

I asked...he is. Hope it works out and he still gets to take classes. I would hate that to be the reason he can't. :(

Happy New Year
