Substitute!
Today in my College Algebra class, we had a substitute. I'm pretty sure we drove her crazy. I'm sure you are picturing smart ass comments and paper flying in the air, lots of noise. But, no. We drove her crazy with silence. I'm not kidding either. Two times she stopped the lecture. The first time she said, "This is how you sit in class with your teacher? You just sit there and she talks at you?(silence) Huh?" Then she looked at me, and I nodded. "Really? You say nothing?" I'm trying not to laugh, why isn't anyone saying anything? I don't know. So she turns around and people are like looking at each other and making confused faces at each other. This goes on for a while longer and then she stops again, "I've never taught a class like this. I would walk out. It's like talking to statues. You don't move! A pin could drop and I would hear it." I'm just thinking that she would not hear a pin drop, because she didn't notice when I very loudly spilled my bag of pretzels on the floor and swore under my breath. (And wouldn't you know the best part, the extra salt on the bottom spilled all over the carpet. Dang.) So, I don't know. It was just weird. Who knew you could drive a professor crazy with silence? It just seems counter-intuitive.

Oh it drives us crazy. I have a class like that. All the time! It's my class at 8am. Of course the kids tell me that it's because they are still asleep. Yeah, right! They want to drive me over the edge!
